Keynote Address from the Building Safety Regulator

December 5 at 10:30 00:30 mins 10:30
The Building Safety Act 2022 has made it a mandatory requirement for all buildings over 18m to be registered, new requirements on those managing and operating those buildings, and building control inspectors undertaking restricted activities, to register with the Building Safety Regulator (BSR). This is a fundamental development in the industry that will change the way that we design and maintain our buildings. With the deadline of October 2023 looming, it is important that all industry professionals understand their responsibilities and what is going to be expected of them. Deputy Director of the HSE Building Safety Programme, Tim Galloway, will discuss the development of the Building Safety Regulator, the changes it will bring, and the effects that this will have on the Built Environment in this opening keynote address.

Retrofit of Domestic and Non-Domestic Buildings

December 6 at 10:30 01:30 hr 10:30
The large scale and successful upgrading of our existing housing stock in order to meet improved expectations for energy efficiency, health, and climate resilience is probably one of the key challenges for our sector in the coming years. If we are to achieve the transition to a low carbon economy in a way that works for people and the economy, while much of the technology used is not new, our approach has to be significantly better to ensure we achieve these aims at scale without creating unintended consequences which damage the buildings or adversely effect the occupants. These two speakers are experts in their field and are working at a national level from different perspectives to help address this challenge. The presentations will be followed by a Q&A session.
